The Moroccan government has denied reports claiming that its Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Mohamed Saad Berrada, made comments distancing the country from Africa, describing the allegations as false and fabricated.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the ministry said Berrada never claimed that Morocco does not represent Africa, that the national football team represents only Morocco, or that the country does not need the continent’s support. It also clarified that the minister had not granted any interview or made any public statement on the matter.
Reaffirming the country’s position, the ministry said Morocco remains proud of its African identity, stressing that its long-standing historical, cultural and human ties with other African nations continue to shape its national policy under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.
The government further urged journalists, media organisations and social media users to verify information before publishing or sharing it, warning that legal action may be taken against anyone who spreads false claims or falsely attributes statements to the minister.
