A 55-year-old motorist has escaped without injuries after a moving train collided with his Honda car at the PWD railway crossing in Lagos on Friday, October 9, 2026.
The incident involved a train travelling towards Agege and a Honda car with registration number EKY 902 JT, which sustained extensive damage from the collision.
According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), its operatives, working alongside security personnel, rescued the driver and removed the wrecked vehicle from the railway tracks, allowing the train to continue its journey.
Despite the clearance of the tracks, traffic congestion persisted around the PWD axis following the incident. The damaged vehicle was subsequently handed over to security personnel for investigation into the cause of the collision.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the agency’s operatives and security personnel for their swift and coordinated response, highlighting the importance of collaboration in managing emergencies involving railway operations and adjoining roads.
He urged motorists to exercise caution when approaching railway crossings and designated train corridors, warning against attempting to cross the tracks when a train is approaching or already in motion.
The agency stressed that ignoring railway safety rules could lead to devastating consequences, urging all road users to obey traffic regulations and safety instructions to prevent avoidable accidents and protect human lives.
