The family of late Nollywood comic actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has received ₦7.5 million in donations following a public appeal highlighting their financial struggles.
Content creator King Mitchy announced the update on Instagram on Friday, thanking Nigerians for their generosity after sharing a video of Mr Ibu’s widow and children seeking help.
She said the funds will cover the children’s outstanding school fees, including the eldest daughter’s WAEC examination fees, as well as the family’s unpaid rent. King Mitchy also advised the widow to move to a more affordable apartment.
According to her, she only learned of the family’s situation after a neighbour contacted her two days earlier and said her priority was ensuring the children received the support they needed.
The donations came after the widow revealed that the family had been without electricity for two months due to unpaid bills, relied on well water, and had withdrawn the children from school because they could not afford the fees.
Mr Ibu passed away on March 2, 2024, at the age of 62 after a prolonged illness.
