A former student midwife of Randle General Hospital, Mariam Afinowi, has returned to the institution to give back to the hospital with the donation of a new Cardiotocography (CTG) machine and several fetal Dopplers to strengthen maternal and newborn care.
The donation was made on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, to the Maternal and Child Centre (MCC), Gbaja, Surulere.
The Medical Director/CEO of Randle General Hospital, Dr. Lateefat Omolara Agbaje, commended Afinowi for the gesture, describing it as a remarkable demonstration of gratitude, professional commitment and the lasting impact of quality clinical training and mentorship.
Dr. Agbaje explained that the donated equipment would support the maternity team in monitoring fetal well-being and making timely clinical decisions, thereby contributing to improved maternal and newborn care. She added that individual acts of generosity and partnerships complement the efforts of healthcare professionals and help strengthen healthcare delivery.
The Medical Director also reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to providing an enabling environment for learning, professional development and quality patient care, expressing hope that Afinowi’s contribution would inspire others to support healthcare advancement.

Afinowi, who completed an elective placement at Randle General Hospital as a third-year student midwife in 2025, said her experience at the hospital left a lasting impression and inspired her to raise funds to procure equipment for the maternity unit.
She expressed appreciation for the commitment and compassion of the hospital’s maternity team during her placement, noting that she was proud to return not as a student but as a qualified midwife to give back to an institution that contributed to her professional journey.
According to her, her passion for midwifery and caring for women and babies motivated the donation. She explained that fetal monitoring is essential in maternity care as it helps healthcare professionals identify when a baby may require additional support and make timely decisions for both mother and child.
Afinowi also offered to support a training session for relevant maternity staff on the use of the donated equipment, where necessary, to ensure that it is used confidently and to its full capacity.
Randle General Hospital appreciated Afinowi for her thoughtful and impactful contribution, describing the donation as more than medical equipment but a testament to how knowledge and service can be transformed into a lasting legacy.
