The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has introduced a toll-free consumer helpline, urging residents to promptly report fake, expired, adulterated and counterfeit products, misleading advertisements, poor services and other consumer-related violations.
Residents can contact LASCOPA on 080 0005 2726, via email at lasgcopa@gmail.com, or through its social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram and X (Twitter): @lascopa.
The General Manager/CEO of LASCOPA, Afolabi Solebo, Esq., said the toll-free line provides consumers with a direct and accessible channel to report violations, seek guidance and receive timely intervention. He urged residents to formally report complaints to the agency rather than relying solely on social media.
Solebo noted that complaints should be supported with verifiable evidence, including receipts, invoices, photos or videos, product labels, proof of payment, and screenshots of transactions, advertisements or conversations with sellers.
Through the helpline, consumers can report counterfeit and fake products, expired or adulterated goods, defective products, misleading advertisements, unfair business practices, poor services, online shopping disputes and other suspected violations.
LASCOPA also advised consumers to verify products, sellers, prices and terms before making payments, particularly when shopping online. Residents were encouraged to check product labels for manufacturer details, manufacturing and expiry dates, batch numbers, ingredients and usage instructions.
Solebo stressed that credible and timely complaints help LASCOPA identify violations and take enforcement action, noting that consumer protection is a shared responsibility involving government, businesses and consumers.
He urged residents to remain vigilant, saying: “If you see it, question it. If you suspect it, report it. Tell it to LASCOPA.”
