The TechMinds Girls Empowerment Foundation (TMG Empower) has reached approximately 200 girls in Lagos and Nnewi, Anambra State, with scholarships, digital gadgets, mentorship and skills acquisition support to mark the 2026 International Day of the Girl Child.
Held on October 23 and 24 in Nnewi and Lagos, respectively, the two-day celebration themed “Mentor Her Way: Investing in Safe Spaces for Girls’ Future,” focused on promoting girls’ rights, education, digital inclusion and access to opportunities.
The foundation announced scholarships for outstanding girls from primary to tertiary education, distributed tablets and other gadgets, and matched ten girls with industry mentors. In Nnewi, two students received iPads, three received WAEC registration support, while seven graduates benefited from skills acquisition training sponsorship.
The programme featured discussions on girls’ protection, identity, confidence, mentorship and the importance of creating safe spaces. Participants in Nnewi also visited Authority FM Radio Station, where they discussed challenges facing girls in their families and society.
Speaking at the event, TMG Empower Founder and Executive Director, Ndidi Udeaja (Didi), said the initiative was designed to move beyond conversations about girls’ challenges by providing practical support and opportunities for personal and professional growth.
She stressed that financial hardship, limited access to resources and inadequate guidance continue to hinder many girls, noting that the foundation’s approach combines digital skills training, mentorship and personal development.
“The real measure of our impact is not simply how many people attended or how many gifts we distributed, but what opportunities become available to these girls afterwards,” she said.
Project Manager, Adepeju Salami, described the initiative as an intentional effort to create more spaces where girls can thrive.
Ahead of the celebration, TMG Empower also disclosed that over 200 Nigerian girls and approximately 100 girls from other African countries had enrolled in its AI Business School, which introduces young women to artificial intelligence, business analytics and creative technology entrepreneurship.
Founded in 2024, TMG Empower is a registered non-governmental organisation dedicated to empowering girls and young women through digital skills, mentorship, personal development and access to opportunities.
