The Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority (LASRERA) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, have reinforced their partnership to combat fraud and other criminal activities in Lagos State’s real estate sector.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing, Engr. Abdulhafis Gbolahan Toriola, disclosed this during a strategic visit by LASRERA’s management team to the EFCC office. He reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to promoting transparency, accountability and professionalism in the real estate industry, noting that the collaboration would strengthen regulatory compliance and boost public confidence in property transactions.
Speaking during the visit, the Acting Zonal Director of EFCC Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, ACE I Bawa Usman Kaltungo, pledged the Commission’s support in investigating and prosecuting individuals and organisations involved in fraudulent real estate activities. He commended LASRERA for the effective implementation of the LASRERA Law 2022, revealing that the EFCC is already handling several cases involving victims defrauded by fake estate agents.
Kaltungo also urged LASRERA to adopt stricter enforcement measures, including the blacklisting of fraudulent estate agents, while emphasising the need for continuous information sharing and joint operations to address emerging threats in the sector.
Both agencies agreed to sustain regular stakeholder engagements, public sensitisation campaigns and coordinated enforcement activities aimed at promoting ethical standards, regulatory compliance and protecting residents from real estate fraud.
The strengthened collaboration is expected to enhance transparency, improve investor confidence and support sustainable housing development across Lagos State.
