The Board Secretary of the Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board (LSCPWB), Dr. Gbolabo Omoniyi Okudero, has received the Nelson Mandela Leadership Award of Excellence and Integrity from the Southern Youth Forum in recognition of his contributions to public service, societal development and the advancement of the Board.
The award, which describes him as an Icon of Societal Development, was presented on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, during a courtesy visit to his office by a delegation led by the Forum’s National President, Amb. Olajide Olakunle A., alongside its Welfare Officer, Amb. Hakeem Olatubosun.
Speaking during the presentation, Amb. Olajide explained that Okudero was nominated by a member of the Forum, after which the organisation assessed his professional background and public service record. The verification process also included a visit to his former workplace, Lagos State Health District 6.
The Forum commended his leadership, administrative skills and contributions to the effective coordination of pilgrimage activities and the smooth operation of the Board. The award citation also recognised his dedication, integrity, hard work, humanitarian contributions and philanthropic gestures.
In his response, Dr. Okudero expressed gratitude for the recognition, admitting that he was surprised his contributions had attracted the Forum’s attention, as he had carried out his responsibilities without seeking public acknowledgement.
He also appreciated the support of the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Hon. Olanrewaju Ibrahim Layode; the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Adewunmi Ogunsanya; and the Special Adviser on Christian Religious Matters, Very Rev. Adebukola Adeleke, whom he credited for their continued support.
He emphasised that genuine service to humanity should be driven by the desire to make positive contributions to society rather than the expectation of awards or personal rewards.
The presentation was witnessed by heads of departments and units of the Board, who joined the delegation and the Board Secretary for photographs.
The recognition highlights Dr. Okudero’s commitment to purposeful leadership and public service, while reaffirming the Board’s dedication to providing quality welfare services and ensuring successful and hitch-free Christian pilgrimage exercises.
