The Lagos State Government has pledged its support for the forthcoming premiere of Black Market, an ambitious movie event expected to draw about 50,000 people to Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos Island, on September 26, 2026.
The state government disclosed this following a courtesy visit by the film’s team to the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Toke Benson-Awoyinka, on August 27.
The delegation was led by Producer, Nora Awolowo; Co-Producer/Executive Producer, Omowunmi Dada; and Event Producer, Damilola Osikoya. They sought the ministry’s partnership and support for the premiere, which organisers hope will set a Guinness World Records record for the largest audience at a movie screening.
Benson-Awoyinka assured the team of the ministry’s backing, noting that the initiative aligns with the state’s efforts to promote young talents, create opportunities for creatives and strengthen Lagos’ entertainment and creative economy.
She described Lagos as Nigeria’s leading hub for entertainment and creativity, stressing the government’s commitment to initiatives that showcase local talent, attract visitors and reinforce the state’s position as a destination for tourism, arts, culture and entertainment.
The commissioner said supporting young creatives also aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus Development Agenda, particularly its focus on innovation, youth empowerment and the creative economy.
She urged the organisers to maintain high standards and deliver the premiere professionally in line with global best practices. She also advised them to engage relevant ministries, departments and agencies to obtain the necessary approvals and support for the event.
According to the state government, the large-scale premiere could further boost Lagos’ reputation for hosting major entertainment events, create opportunities for local creatives and contribute to the state’s tourism economy.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, who attended the meeting, also reaffirmed the ministry’s readiness to support initiatives that promote the growth of Lagos’ creative and entertainment sector.
