….Government Assures Continued Investments and Development Across the State

The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to prioritising residents’ needs in the preparation of the 2027 budget, while balancing competing demands with available resources.

The Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Ope George, disclosed this at the 2027 Budget Consultative Forum for the Lagos Island Division, held at the MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos.

The forum provided residents and stakeholders with an opportunity to present their priorities and development needs for consideration in the state’s 2027 budget.

George explained that while the government considers requests submitted during the consultations, it cannot implement every demand simultaneously due to competing needs across the state and available resources.

He said residents’ submissions are collated and subjected to a prioritisation process, with government identifying projects and interventions that can either be completed or sustained as ongoing initiatives.

According to him, the approach is aimed at ensuring that residents’ requests are addressed realistically within the state’s resources and broader development plans.

The Commissioner also acknowledged the contributions of Lagos residents to the growth of the state, expressing optimism that the government would continue to build on its investments and developmental achievements.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the House Committee on Economic Planning and Budget, Hon. Sa’ad Olumoh, said Lagos’ development strategies continue to evolve in response to emerging challenges and the changing needs of residents.

Olumoh identified the Infrastructure Master Plan and Development Plan as key frameworks guiding the state’s development efforts, stressing the need for government strategies to remain responsive to prevailing realities.

He described the consultative forum as an important part of the 2027 budget preparation process, providing stakeholders with an avenue to identify and present their priorities for the coming year.

The lawmaker explained that inputs from the consultations would be collated and incorporated into the 2027 budget proposal before being transmitted to the Lagos State House of Assembly for scrutiny and approval.

He added that following legislative approval, the budget would be presented to the Governor for assent before becoming the state’s approved budget for 2027.

The consultation forms part of the Lagos State Government’s ongoing engagement with stakeholders across the state’s five divisions ahead of the 2027 budget.
