The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has dismissed claims circulating on social media that Nigeria’s National Identification Number (NIN) database has been breached.
In a recent Statement dropped by the commission, the claim was debunked as being false and there was an explanation that the video currently circulating online is a recycled report from 2024 which had previously been disclaimed by NIMC.
NIMC said its National Identity Database (NIDB) has not been breached or compromised, adding that it maintains multi-layered security measures to protect the personal information of registered citizens and legal residents.
The commission urged Nigerians to disregard the viral video and obtain information concerning the National Identity Management System only through its official communication channels, reiterating their commitment to protecting the identity of the people.
