The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has extended its 66 naira petrol discount across its retail stations nationwide until October 31, 2026, as part of efforts to ease the burden of rising fuel prices on Nigerians.
The company announced the extension, explaining that the discount was initially introduced on October 1 to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary. The decision comes amid rising global crude oil prices and concerns over the impact of higher fuel costs on households and businesses.
In a statement signed by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, NNPC said the initiative was designed to provide temporary relief to consumers following the recent increase in international oil prices.
The company, however, clarified that the discount does not represent a return to the petrol subsidy regime, which the Federal Government removed in May 2023.
According to NNPC, the offer applies to its retail outlets nationwide and does not establish a uniform pump price across the country or change the existing market based pricing system.
