A Kano based fashion designer, Abdulkadir Hassanul Basari, has embarked on a 120 hour sewing marathon in a bid to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest sewing marathon by an individual.
The fashion designer announced the project in a video shared on his social media platforms on October 1, describing it as an opportunity to use his skills to support education and community development.
The marathon challenge which began on Wednesday, October 7, at the sports complex of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria in Kano, is expected to end today, Monday, October 12th.
This attempt initiative tagged “Sew For The Nation” combines the record attempt with a charitable cause, as Basari is producing school uniforms for pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds attending public schools.
He is seeking to surpass the existing Guinness World Record of 106 hours, 55 minutes and 20 seconds, achieved by fellow Nigerian tailor Oluwaseun Kuforiji in January 2025.
If successful, the challenge would mark another Nigerian effort to gain international recognition while using vocational skills to support needy communities.
