The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Correspondents’ Chapel, Lagos State Council, has unanimously endorsed Adewale Akodu for the position of Chairman of the NUJ Lagos State Council, pledging its full support ahead of the forthcoming election.
The endorsement followed Akodu’s appearance at the Chapel’s congress held on Thursday at the NUJ Secretariat, where he presented his 10-point manifesto, outlining his plans to promote unity, improve journalists’ welfare and strengthen the union.
During the session, members examined the manifesto and engaged the chairmanship aspirant on key proposals, particularly those aimed at improving working conditions, upholding professional standards and repositioning the NUJ Lagos State Council for greater progress.
The interactive meeting allowed members to seek clarification on Akodu’s proposed agenda and the practical steps he intends to take to address the concerns of journalists across Lagos State.
Following the engagement, the Chapel unanimously declared its support for Akodu’s candidacy, expressing confidence in his leadership vision and commitment to the welfare and professional development of journalists.
In a further demonstration of solidarity, the Correspondents’ Chapel printed two campaign banners bearing Akodu’s campaign identity, reinforcing its endorsement with a visible show of support for his chairmanship ambition.
The gesture signals the Chapel’s determination to back its declaration with concrete action as the contest for the NUJ Lagos State Council leadership gathers momentum.
Akodu’s campaign has prioritised unity, accountability, professionalism, improved welfare and collective responsibility, with a focus on building a stronger and more responsive union.
The endorsement adds to the support for Akodu as he continues consultations with chapels and members across the Council ahead of the election.
The development also highlights the role of engagement between candidates and journalists in shaping the future of the NUJ Lagos State Council, particularly in promoting leadership that reflects members’ aspirations and prioritises their welfare.
