The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Lagos State Chapter, has endorsed its immediate past chairperson, Mrs. Adeola Taibat Ekine, for the position of Deputy National Chairperson ahead of the association’s National Delegates Conference and Elections scheduled to hold in Kano from November 23 to 25, 2026.
The endorsement was unanimously approved at the Lagos chapter’s congress on Saturday, October 17, following the formal presentation of her nomination and expression-of-interest forms. Members cited her leadership record and commitment to the welfare and professional development of female journalists.
Speaking on behalf of the chapter, its chairperson, Jumoke Falayi-Johnson, expressed confidence in Ekine’s leadership abilities, describing her as an inclusive leader and a dependable advocate for women journalists.
Ekine’s two-term tenure as NAWOJ Lagos chairperson featured several initiatives, including the establishment of a functional creche to support working mothers and promote exclusive breastfeeding. Her administration also prioritised capacity building and social and gender advocacy against discrimination in the workplace.
She currently serves as Head of the Public Affairs Unit at the Lagos State Printing Corporation and is an Information/Public Affairs Officer with the Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy. She also serves as Special Adviser to the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
If elected, Ekine plans to promote a more inclusive association and expand digital competence among female journalists.
