A House of Representatives aspirant for the Iwo Federal Constituency under the All Progressives Congress, Engr. Ademola Adedapo, has emphasized the need for greater investment in science education, describing it as a critical driver of national growth and development.
Adedapo made the call during the 7th edition of the Aenon Foundation Annual Science Quiz Competition held in Iwo. The competition attracted about 250 science students from secondary schools across the Osun West Senatorial District, providing a platform to promote academic excellence and encourage interest in science-related disciplines.
Speaking at the event, Adedapo, who also serves as President of the Aenon Foundation, noted that nations that have recorded remarkable achievements in technology, innovation, and industrialization have done so by placing science and education at the center of their development agenda.
He described science as the backbone of modern civilization, stressing that sustained investment in scientific research, innovation, and quality education is essential for economic growth, job creation, and global competitiveness.
The APC chieftain also encouraged students to remain committed to their studies and pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), noting that the future of the country depends largely on the capacity of its young people to drive innovation and solve emerging challenges.
He further called on government agencies, private organizations, and stakeholders in the education sector to collaborate in improving learning facilities, supporting science-based initiatives, and creating opportunities that will enable young talents to thrive.
The annual science quiz competition forms part of the foundation’s efforts to promote academic excellence, reward outstanding students, and inspire the next generation of scientists, innovators, and leaders
