The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its dedication to advancing Africa’s creative industry, describing it as a key driver of economic growth, youth empowerment, tourism, and global influence.
Speaking at the opening of the SHOWBIZ101 Workshop 2026 at Alliance Française, Ikoyi, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, praised bridgeAFRIC for creating a platform that connects African creatives with international opportunities and partnerships.
He noted that Africa has earned global recognition in music, film, fashion, and digital content, but stressed that the focus must now shift from visibility to ownership.
“Africa’s creatives must move beyond recognition to building sustainable businesses, protecting their intellectual property, attracting investment, and creating lasting value,” Aregbe said.
He added that Lagos remains committed to providing an enabling environment for creativity and innovation, positioning the state as Africa’s leading creative and cultural hub under the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Aregbe also encouraged participants to take advantage of the workshop by learning, networking, and collaborating to unlock new opportunities across the continent and beyond
