The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has reinforced its commitment to safeguarding electricity consumers by institutionalising its monthly Stakeholders’ Parley with Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) and Ikeja Electric, an initiative that has benefited over 10,000 Lagos residents.
Through its interventions, the Agency has facilitated more than ₦200 million in credit adjustments for electricity consumers, helping to address billing disputes and promote fairness in electricity service delivery.
The monthly engagement brings together electricity consumers, distribution companies, regulators and other stakeholders to address key issues such as power supply, estimated billing, metering, customer service, consumer rights and complaint resolution.
Speaking on the initiative, LASCOPA’s General Manager/Chief Executive Officer, Afolabi Solebo, said the platform promotes transparent dialogue between consumers and electricity providers while ensuring complaints are resolved fairly and efficiently. He noted that the parley has also empowered thousands of consumers with knowledge of their rights, responsibilities, complaint channels, dispute resolution processes and energy conservation.
Solebo stressed that sustained collaboration between regulators, utility providers and consumers is essential to improving accountability, consumer confidence and service delivery in the electricity sector. He also commended EKEDC and Ikeja Electric for their continued cooperation and commitment to engaging directly with consumers.
He disclosed that the Stakeholders’ Parley is held on the last Wednesday of every month with EKEDC and the last Thursday of every month with Ikeja Electric, creating regular opportunities for consumers to seek redress and engage with service providers.
The LASCOPA boss encouraged Lagos residents to report electricity-related complaints through the Agency’s online and offline channels, urging consumers to stay informed about their rights and actively participate in stakeholder engagements.
He reaffirmed LASCOPA’s commitment to ensuring that every consumer in Lagos receives fair treatment, quality service and prompt access to effective complaint resolution
