Ten of Team Lagos’ outstanding young athletes have received a major financial boost after Parallex Bank awarded each of them ₦1 million in recognition of their exceptional performances at the 2025 National Youth Games, where Lagos emerged overall champions for the first time in the competition’s history.
The presentation ceremony, held at the bank’s Lagos headquarters, brought together the athletes, their parents, officials of the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), bank executives and other stakeholders to celebrate a partnership aimed at promoting youth development through sports.
The beneficiaries, selected for their medal-winning performances at the Under-15 National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, include gymnast Stephanie Onusiriuka, swimmers Dumuje Aidan, Ibidapo Tofunmi, Hafsat Kazeem, Mariam Mohammed and Megbododo Teminijesu, athlete Timilehin Olaiya, cyclist Ashiru Ibrahim, hard-of-hearing athlete Fabowale Akerede and tennis player Emmanuel Bright.
Presenting the awards, Parallex Bank’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Olufemi Bakre, described the cash reward as an investment in Nigeria’s future champions rather than a reward for past achievements. He said the initiative reflects the bank’s commitment to nurturing young talents and empowering them to achieve greater success.
