The Lagos State Government has commenced the removal of illegal shanties, makeshift structures, and market stalls constructed along the median of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway as part of ongoing efforts to restore order and safeguard critical public infrastructure
The enforcement exercise is in line with the state’s urban renewal agenda and complements the ongoing reconstruction of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway into a modern 10-lane highway designed to improve transportation, road safety, and economic activities across the corridor
According to the government, the highway median is not designated for commercial activities, residential occupation, or any form of illegal development, stressing that such practices endanger lives, obstruct infrastructure, and undermine the city’s development objectives
The government noted that world-class cities thrive because residents respect public infrastructure, obey planning regulations, and uphold environmental standards. It emphasized that Lagos can only attain its vision of becoming a cleaner, safer, and globally competitive city through collective responsibility and strict adherence to the law
Residents were also reminded that indiscriminate waste disposal, illegal trading, and the erection of unauthorized structures on road corridors remain unacceptable and will continue to attract enforcement actions
