The Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON) has dismissed reports of a leadership crisis in its Lagos State chapter, describing them as false and misleading.
The union reaffirmed the resolutions reached at its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on April 24, 2026, confirming that Comrade Jaiyesimi Azeez remains the duly recognised Lagos State Chairman under the leadership of National President Comrade Damola Adeniran. It stressed that any announcement claiming a change in leadership is invalid.
As part of efforts to protect the union from external interference, AUATON announced disciplinary measures against some members. Comrade Kolawole Aina was suspended as South-West Zonal Chairman pending an investigation into alleged unauthorised publications, while Comrade David Nosa was suspended for actions deemed harmful to the union’s unity. The suspension of Comrade Tosin Akindele for alleged gross misconduct also remains in effect.
The union warned suspended members against impersonation and spreading false information, saying such actions undermine reconciliation efforts being facilitated by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Ministry of Labour. It added that security agencies, including the Police and the DSS, have been notified and urged the media and app-based drivers to disregard the false reports and remain united in the pursuit of better pay and improved working conditions.
