The Lagos State Government has intervened in the case of a widow in Ikorodu who alleged that she has been subjected to abuse and intimidation by members of her late husband’s family.
The case, which gained widespread attention on social media, prompted the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) to immediately reach out to the victim. According to the agency, the widow reported that following her husband’s recent death, she had been threatened, physically assaulted, and continuously harassed by some of her in-laws, who were also allegedly attempting to take over her property.
The matter has already been reported to the Owutu Police Division, and the DSVA said it is working closely with the police to ensure a thorough investigation. Preliminary reports indicate that the principal suspect has been arrested and remains in police custody while investigations continue.
The agency reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to safeguarding the widow and her children and ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice in accordance with the law.
The DSVA also commended members of the public and partner organisations for promptly reporting the incident, noting that timely reporting enables authorities to respond more effectively to cases of abuse.
