Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Saturday inspected a vandalised bridge pole at Vin-Niger along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Amuwo-Odofin, assuring residents that the structural integrity of the bridge remains intact and safe.
The Governor disclosed that vandals had excavated and removed some fittings used to secure the bridge. He vowed that the government would track down those responsible, including individuals involved in buying or selling stolen public infrastructure materials, regardless of their status or background.
Sanwo-Olu described the vandalism of public assets as shameful and unacceptable, particularly as the government continues to invest heavily in infrastructure. He also raised concerns over the destruction of drainage slabs and theft of iron rods along Second and Seventh Avenues in Festac Town.
The Governor urged residents to take responsibility for protecting public infrastructure by reporting suspicious activities to the authorities, stressing that government officials cannot be everywhere at all times. He commended the Lagos State Police Command, Rapid Response Squad, Lagos State Neighbourhood Watch and Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) personnel for their swift response to the incident.
The inspection, which included visits to Alaba Rago and Orile, was also part of ongoing efforts by the administration to clean up the Lagos-Badagry Expressway corridor and protect public assets. Sanwo-Olu said significant progress had been made in clearing the corridor and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to road safety, law and order, and the protection of public infrastructure.
He further pledged continued collaboration with security agencies to keep Lagos safe while creating opportunities for law-abiding residents.
