Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been eliminated from the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations following a narrow 1–0 defeat to Cameroon in the quarter finals on Sunday, August 9.
The defending champions fell behind in the 19th minute when Cameroon’s Myriam Nyadjou found the back of the net from a free kick.
Nigeria responded with sustained pressure and created opportunities in search of an equaliser, but the Falcons were unable to break down the Cameroonian defence.
The defeat brings Nigeria’s title defence to an end and means the nine time African champions will not secure automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup through the WAFCON semi-finals.
The Super Falcons must now pursue qualification through the play off route, while Cameroon continue their struggle for the continental title.
