The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Establishments and Training, has commenced a two-day capacity-building programme to equip public servants with the knowledge and skills needed to implement the newly enacted Nigerian Tax Laws.
Organised in collaboration with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), the training is taking place at Workforce Group, The Zone, Gbagada, Oworonshoki, Lagos, bringing together public sector leaders, tax professionals and senior officials from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Mr. Afolabi Ayantayo, said the programme is designed to deepen participants’ understanding of the new tax reforms and strengthen their capacity to implement the laws effectively. He noted that the reforms present opportunities to improve governance, tax administration and revenue generation through a well-trained public workforce.
The training also featured a panel session with tax experts and senior government officials, including the Special Adviser to the Governor on Taxation and Revenue Generation, Mr. Kabir Ogungbo, who discussed strategies for implementing the new tax laws, improving internally generated revenue and promoting tax compliance.
Participants engaged in technical presentations, interactive discussions and practical case studies on the implications of the new tax laws, emerging trends in tax administration and innovative approaches to improving public service delivery.
The Lagos State Government reaffirmed its commitment to continuous capacity development, strategic partnerships and institutional excellence, stressing that investing in the knowledge and skills of public servants remains essential to effective governance and the state’s economic growth agenda.
