Pensioners under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) in Lagos State on Monday, 24th August, staged a protest at Abule Egba over the delayed implementation of the state government.
The protesters, under the Nigeria Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension Scheme (NUPCPS), expressed dissatisfaction with the delays in the payment of their pension.
The union had earlier given the Lagos State Government a 19 days ultimatum, which expired on August 19th, demanding that the proposed pension increase be paid.
The pensioners have also complained about low monthly payments, with some reportedly receiving between ₦20,000 and ₦70,000, depending on their levels in the civil service.
They are calling on the state government to hear their voices and make sure all due pensions are paid.
