One person has been confirmed dead while two others were rescued after a two-storey building undergoing manual demolition collapsed at No. 42, Governors Road, Aboru, in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, September 10, 2026, during demolition work. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said its Alpha Eagle Response Team was dispatched from the Cappa, Oshodi Response Unit at about 12:56 a.m. following a distress call.
On arrival, emergency responders found workers trapped beneath the rubble. LASEMA activated the State Emergency Response Plan and took charge of the multi-agency rescue operation.
Two adult males were successfully rescued alive and given emergency first aid by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) before being evacuated to a nearby health facility for further treatment. The body of another adult male was also recovered from the debris.
The rescue operation involves LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and LASAMBUS, while the affected area has been cordoned off to protect residents and provide emergency responders with unhindered access. Community leaders and security agencies are also supporting the operation.
LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, commiserated with the family of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He urged developers and residents to comply with building regulations and engage only certified professionals for demolition and construction works.
He also advised Lagos residents to report suspicious or unsafe building activities through the 767 and 112 toll-free emergency numbers, assuring that the Lagos State Government remains committed to protecting lives and property through prompt emergency response.
