The Lagos State Government has commissioned the third phase of Ziba Beach Resort in Eti-Osa Local Government Area, reinforcing the state’s efforts to attract private investment and strengthen its tourism and hospitality sector.
The Phase III facility was commissioned on September 11, 2026, by the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Toke Benson-Awoyinka, who described the resort as a demonstration of the creativity, resilience and investment potential in Lagos.
Benson-Awoyinka commended the resort’s owners, Mrs Tricia Olumide and Dr Olufemi Olumide, for their continued investment and expansion of the Ziba brand. She said the project reflected growing confidence in Lagos as a destination for tourism, leisure and hospitality businesses.
The Commissioner stressed that tourism should benefit both international visitors and Lagos residents, while investments in the sector create employment and economic opportunities for surrounding communities. She noted that Ziba’s construction and operations have created opportunities in hospitality, food and beverage services, housekeeping and other tourism-related areas.
She also highlighted the project as an example of the entrepreneurial spirit of young Nigerians and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for private-sector investment in tourism, hospitality, entertainment and the creative economy.
According to her, sustained collaboration between government and investors remains essential to expanding tourism infrastructure, generating jobs for young people and strengthening Lagos as a destination for leisure and business. She also expressed optimism about further expansion, noting that the investors had indicated plans for another phase.
Speaking at the commissioning, Ziba Beach Resort Managing Director and CEO, Mrs Tricia Olumide, described Phase III as a major milestone in the resort’s growth. She said the new phase features expanded accommodation and wellness facilities, including larger over-water rooms, loft-style accommodation and a dedicated wellness centre.
Olumide said the resort was established on the belief that Nigerians should be able to enjoy high-quality luxury and hospitality locally rather than travelling abroad. She recalled that the initial idea of an over-water resort in Lagos attracted questions about its feasibility, but the investors remained committed to demonstrating that Lagos could support world-class tourism facilities for residents and visitors.
She said the latest expansion demonstrates the ability of Nigerian entrepreneurs and hospitality operators to develop tourism experiences capable of meeting international expectations.
Also speaking, Founder and CEO of Nedcomoaks Limited, Dr Kennedy Okonkwo, described Ziba Beach Resort as an investment that goes beyond leisure and accommodation. He said the facility contributes to the local economy through employment, training and tourism-related skills development, while demonstrating the potential of Nigeria’s domestic tourism industry.
Ziba Beach Resort is an over-water resort in Lagos offering accommodation, leisure, wellness and hospitality services in a waterfront setting. The commissioning of Phase III adds to the growing number of tourism and leisure facilities in the state and underscores continued private-sector participation in Lagos’ tourism industry.
The development further reflects the state’s push to use tourism, hospitality and entertainment as drivers of economic activity, employment generation and new experiences for residents and visitors.
