Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has presented Lagos as a strategic gateway for global investment into Africa, calling for stronger international partnerships that will create tangible economic opportunities for Lagos residents and investors.
Sanwo-Olu spoke at the Global Africa Business Initiative’s Unstoppable Africa 2026 in New York, held on September 20 and 21 at the New York Marriott Marquis, on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.

The engagement, facilitated by the Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Folashade Bada Ambrose-Medebem, featured global business leaders, investors, policymakers and heads of government.
A key highlight was the inclusion of Invest Lagos, the Ministry’s flagship investment-promotion initiative, in the Governor’s address. Sanwo-Olu highlighted Lagos’ population of over 22 million, expanding market, entrepreneurial base, infrastructure needs and strategic location as opportunities for investors.
He stressed that investment should translate into practical benefits through sectors including infrastructure, transportation, healthcare and enterprise development, while reaffirming Lagos’ openness to international capital, strategic partnerships and private-sector participation.
The engagement builds on the Invest Lagos 3.0 summit held in Lagos in June under the theme “Lagos: The Business Gateway to Africa,” which attracted investors, policymakers, development institutions and business leaders to explore opportunities in infrastructure, manufacturing, technology, trade, energy, finance and the creative economy.
Mrs. Ambrose-Medebem said MCCTI would continue positioning Lagos as an investor-friendly destination by prioritising deal-making, investor matchmaking and sector-specific engagement across manufacturing, technology, trade, energy, finance, agriculture, real estate and the creative economy.

She said the Ministry would continue taking Lagos’ investment proposition to global platforms and connecting investors with credible opportunities, productive partnerships and bankable projects.
The New York engagement further reinforces Lagos’ drive to attract investment that supports infrastructure development, enterprise growth, job creation, industrial expansion and economic competitiveness.
