Public service workers under the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) have commenced a three-day warning strike over worsening economic hardship and the government’s failure to address their demands.
The industrial action began at midnight on Friday, October 2, and will end on Sunday, October 4, 2026. The council directed workers across federal, state and local government services to participate.
The decision followed the Federal Government’s alleged failure to respond to demands submitted to President Bola Tinubu on September 21.
The workers are demanding a reduction in petrol prices to N500 per litre, an immediate wage award, and the establishment of a tripartite committee to begin negotiations for a new national minimum wage ahead of 2027.
The council said rising fuel costs, transportation expenses and the increasing prices of essential goods have placed severe pressure on workers, their dependants and vulnerable Nigerians.
The JNPSNC said the strike is intended to draw attention to the economic and mental difficulties confronting workers and to press the government to take urgent measures to ease the situation.
The JNPSNC had earlier given the government until September 30 to respond to its demands.
