The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has activated an intensified 24-hour traffic management strategy across the state to tackle increased vehicular and pedestrian movement during the Ember Months and upcoming festive season.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said officers and specialised response teams have been strategically deployed to major highways, bridges, interchanges, traffic-prone corridors, transport terminals and commercial areas to improve traffic flow and respond quickly to incidents.
The operation will focus on real-time traffic monitoring, corridor management, intersection control and rapid removal of breakdowns, crashed vehicles, illegal parking, indiscriminate loading and other obstructions. Tactical diversions and temporary traffic controls will also be introduced when necessary to prevent incidents from causing widespread gridlock.
LASTMA will work closely with the Nigeria Police Force, FRSC, LASEMA, LASA, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, transport unions and other agencies on traffic control, accident evacuation, emergency response and enforcement.
Bakare-Oki urged motorists, commercial drivers, tanker and articulated-vehicle operators and other road users to avoid speeding, reckless overtaking, driving against traffic, illegal parking and obstructing traffic lanes. He also advised motorists travelling long distances to inspect their brakes, tyres, lights and other critical vehicle components before setting out.
Residents can report crashes, breakdowns, obstructions and other road incidents through LASTMA’s toll-free 3367 hotline for prompt intervention.
