The Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force have rescued 20 prospective NYSC members and one civilian who were abducted along the Owerri-Onitsha Road in Imo State.
The victims, all from Oyo State, were travelling from Ibadan to their respective NYSC orientation camps when they were kidnapped on October 1.
They were rescued at about 5:30 a.m. Saturday during a joint security operation in a forested area of Imo State.
The operation involved personnel from the Nigerian Army, DSS and Police, who successfully located and freed the victims after days in captivity.
The rescued prospective corps members and the civilian were subsequently taken to safety for medical checks and further assistance.
Security agencies have continued efforts to track down those responsible for the abduction and strengthen security along major routes in the state.
