Armed bandits have reportedly intercepted a vehicle conveying passengers returning from Sokoto city and killed everyone on board after opening fire along the road leading to Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
According to conflict reporter Bakatsine, some of the victims were reportedly among the 3,000 people recruited by the Sokoto State Government and invited to the state capital for further screening and collection of their documents.
The passengers were said to have been travelling home when the attackers intercepted their vehicle and launched the deadly assault. Photographs of some of the deceased were reportedly shared online, but the identities of the victims and the total number of casualties remain unconfirmed.
As of the time of reporting, Nigerian authorities had yet to officially confirm the attack or release an official casualty figure.
The incident has renewed concerns about the safety of travellers on roads across Sokoto State and the wider northwestern region, where armed groups continue to pose serious security challenges.
