Thirty-one of the 39 pupils rescued after spending 56 days in captivity in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have been discharged from the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, after being certified medically fit.
The children were admitted by the Oyo State Government immediately after their rescue for comprehensive medical and psychological evaluations. According to the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Prof. Olawale Olakukehin, all the pupils received appropriate treatment, with most responding well and reuniting with their families.
He disclosed that eight pupils remain under medical care, including one child diagnosed with a hole in the heart who is currently receiving specialised treatment. The remaining children are also undergoing continued physical and psychological care to aid their recovery from the trauma of their ordeal.
Prof. Olakukehin said the hospital remains committed to caring for the pupils until they fully recover, while the Oyo State Government has assured families that every child will receive the necessary medical attention before being discharged. The pupils regained their freedom following a coordinated rescue operation by the military, police and other security agencies.
