The Lagos State Government has renewed its commitment to making its 30-year development plan a reality by introducing a new system to track projects and ensure government agencies deliver on their responsibilities.

The move was revealed on Tuesday at a Stakeholders’ Parley on the implementation of the Lagos State Development Plan (LSDP) 2052, held at Protea Hotel, Ikeja, attended by body of Permanent Secretaries, Planning Officers of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as well as development partners to review progress, discuss challenges and agree on ways to improve the implementation of the plan.

To improve implementation, the State introduced the LSDP 2052 Tracking Dashboard, a digital platform that will help monitor projects, measure the performance of MDAs, identify delays early and support better decision-making.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Ope George, said the Development Plan is more than just a document. According to him, it is the government’s long-term plan to make Lagos a safer, more prosperous and better organised city over the next 30 years.

Mr George, represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Economic Planning and Budget, Mr Lekan Balogun explained that while the plan contains more than 400 development projects and programmes, its success depends on how well government agencies carry them out.

“The Plan itself recognizes that implementation is the true measure of success. While it sets out over 400 strategic initiatives, its impact depends on sustained financing, integration into government planning and budgeting, active stakeholder participation and robust monitoring.

“The future of Lagos will not be determined by the quality of our plans alone. It will be determined by the quality of our execution.” the Commissioner said.

He urged government agencies to work more closely together, improve reporting and focus on delivering real results that residents can see and benefit from.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, Mrs. Olayinka Ojo, said the stakeholders’ meeting was organised to ensure that the State’s development plan does not remain only on paper but is fully implemented.

Mrs. Ojo said the commitment and leadership of government institutions will determine how quickly Lagos achieves the objectives of the Development Plan.

According to her,“As Accounting Officers and heads of government agencies, your leadership, commitment and ability to mainstream the initiatives into annual work plans, sector strategies and budget implementation will ultimately determine the pace at which Lagos achieves the objectives of the Development Plan.”

The Permanent Secretary further commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his long-term vision, describing him as a leader whose investments are shaping the future of Lagos.

She cited landmark projects such as the Massey Children’s Hospital, the proposed Lekki International Airport and the Lekki Deep Sea Port as examples of strategic investments designed to improve healthcare, transportation, trade and economic growth for generations to come.

She said the projects reflect the Governor’s commitment to implementing the vision outlined in the Lagos State Development Plan.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Economic Planning and Budget, explained that the Lagos State Development Plan contains 447 initiatives, with 287 of them scheduled for implementation between 2022 and 2030.

Mr Balogun said that the stakeholders’ meeting was organised to help government agencies review their responsibilities, strengthen collaboration and agree on practical steps to deliver projects that require the support of more than one agency.

He added that many residents are already benefiting from some of the plans through improvements in education, healthcare, transportation, security and tourism, while more projects are expected to be delivered in the coming years.

The Lagos State Development Plan 2052 was launched in 2022 as a 30-year blueprint to guide the State’s growth. It outlines government plans to improve infrastructure, create jobs, strengthen public services and build a more competitive and sustainable economy.
