Professor Is-haq Oloyede has officially handed over the leadership of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to Professor Segun Aina, ending a decade-long tenure marked by major reforms in Nigeria’s tertiary admissions system.
The handover took place on Friday, July 31, 2026, following the expiration of Oloyede’s second and final term as Registrar. He was first appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2016 and reappointed in 2021, during which he introduced reforms that improved transparency, accountability and operational efficiency in the conduct of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and the admission process.
President Bola Tinubu approved Aina’s appointment on May 21, 2026. A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Aina holds degrees from the University of Kent and Loughborough University, as well as a Senior Management Programme certificate from Lagos Business School.
The Presidency said Aina brings over 15 years of experience in digital transformation and public sector reforms. He has also served as a consultant to examination bodies, including NECO and NABTEB, helping to strengthen ICT infrastructure and examination integrity. He is described as one of Nigeria’s youngest Computer Engineering professors and the youngest Registrar in JAMB’s history.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that Aina would build on Oloyede’s achievements by further modernising JAMB and enhancing the credibility and efficiency of Nigeria’s tertiary admissions system.
