The Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Lekan Fatodu, on Monday received a delegation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for a pre-event inspection ahead of the 2026 CAF Awards.
The CAF delegation was received by Mr. Lekan Fatodu and officials of the Lagos State Sports Commission as part of ongoing preparations for Lagos to host the prestigious continental football ceremony.
The delegation toured the proposed venue, assessing the available facilities and providing feedback to ensure that the venue meets CAF’s required standards.
Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu said preparations are ongoing, with attention being given to every detail required to successfully host the event.
The Governor noted that hosting an event of such magnitude requires careful planning, coordination and collaboration among relevant stakeholders.
Sanwo-Olu expressed confidence in Lagos’ readiness, reaffirming the State Government’s commitment to delivering a memorable, world-class and well-organised ceremony for African football stakeholders.
The CAF Awards is one of Africa’s major football events, recognising outstanding players, coaches and teams for their achievements across the continent.
Hosting the 2026 edition is expected to further strengthen Lagos’ position as a leading destination for major sporting events in Africa.
