Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced a two-week leave after receiving approval from President Bola Tinubu, marking his first official vacation since assuming office on May 29, 2023.
The development was disclosed in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, who said the leave would allow Shettima to focus on study, reflection, and intellectual renewal to enhance his effectiveness in public service.
According to the statement, the Vice President will use the period to review key government programmes, evaluate ongoing policy initiatives, and deepen his understanding of national and global issues as the Federal Government advances its Renewed Hope Agenda.
Since taking office, Shettima has overseen several strategic initiatives covering economic development, food security, humanitarian interventions, digital transformation, job creation, and regional cooperation. He also chairs the National Economic Council, where state governors, the Central Bank Governor, and other top government officials deliberate on economic policies.
The Vice President has equally represented President Tinubu at several international engagements, including the G20 and AU-EU summits, while the President remained in Nigeria to address pressing security concerns.
The Presidency noted that the leave would not affect Shettima’s commitment to supporting the administration’s vision of building a safer, more productive, and prosperous Nigeria. He is expected to resume official duties on or around August 20, 2026.
