The Lagos State Coconut Development Authority (LASCODA) has unveiled a ₦1.3 billion allocation from the State’s ₦14.815 billion Green Bond for coconut development as part of activities marking the 2026 World Coconut Day.
The announcement was made at a press conference themed “Coconuts in Times of Uncertainty: Securing Food, Energy, and Livelihoods,” held at LASCODA’s premises and attended by media professionals, government officials, LASCODA management and key stakeholders in the coconut value chain.
Speaking at the event, LASCODA General Manager, Ms. Ola Olajumoke, welcomed participants and reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to advancing the coconut industry in Lagos.
The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Agriculture, Dr. Oluwarotimi Fashola, said the ₦1.3 billion intervention would support coconut production, processing, value addition, research, climate resilience and investment, with the goal of transforming coconut farming into profitable businesses that create jobs, improve livelihoods and strengthen food security.
Fashola disclosed that 2,139 farmers, marketers and processors had benefited from LASCODA’s training and capacity-building programmes within the past year. He also highlighted investments in seedling production facilities and solar-powered industrial boreholes in Mowo, Ilogbo and Ise communities.
He noted that Lagos’ focus goes beyond planting coconut trees to building a sustainable and commercially viable coconut value chain capable of attracting investment and driving economic growth.
The press conference concluded with a vote of thanks by the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, Mr. Emmanuel Fatai Audu, who appreciated the media, stakeholders and participants for their support.
