The inaugural Executive Council of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA) Alumni Association has officially bowed out after two years of establishing structures, strengthening alumni connections and extending the Academy’s leadership values beyond its Fellowship programme.
The outgoing Council was celebrated on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at the Life After LJLA & Alumni Endowment Awards in Ikeja, Lagos, where members received Awards of Distinguished Service for their dedication and contributions to the growth of the Alumni Association.
Led by Chairperson Mrs. Adepeju Balogun-Awe, the Council included Olakunle Charles Adegunoye (Vice Chairperson), Karimat Yakubu (Public Relations Officer), Oluwaferanmi Akinade (Financial Secretary), Funmi Osineye (Welfare Director), Stephen Okeowo (General Secretary) and Michael Folorunsho (Director of Programmes).
During its tenure, the inaugural Council developed the Alumni Association’s constitution and established operational structures and systems to strengthen engagement among former Fellows across different cohorts. It also extended LJLA’s leadership values to the wider community through a mentorship initiative that reached more than 500 secondary school students across Education Districts 2 and 4.
The executives were formally honoured by the Executive Secretary of LJLA, Mrs. Ayisat Agbaje-Okunade, who presented the Distinguished Service Awards to each outgoing member.
The event also featured a panel session where LJLA alumni shared experiences about transitioning into life after the Fellowship and how the Academy has continued to influence their personal and professional journeys.
A new Executive Council was subsequently elected to lead the association. Alausa Babatunde emerged as President, while Halimat Bello became Vice President. Other members are Saheed Rahmon (General Secretary), Salami Mistura Adepeju (Public Relations Officer 1), Balogun Danjuma (Public Relations Officer 2), Aisha Lawal (Welfare Director), Evelyn Ayansola (Financial Secretary), Anuoluwapo Adebanjo (Director of Programmes) and Omowunmi Omoseyinde (Deputy Director of Programmes).
The transition marked the handover of an alumni community built around systems, programmes and relationships established by the inaugural Council. Alumni and current Fellows from different cohorts joined the celebration, which ended with music, conversations and festivities.
The outgoing Council leaves behind the foundation and structures upon which future generations of LJLA alumni can continue to build.
