Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has expressed confidence in Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, describing him as the best person to continue the state’s leadership after his tenure.
Speaking at the unveiling of Sanwo-Olu: Against All Odds, A Photo-Story of Resilience in the Face of Adversity, a visual documentary authored by his personal photographer, Ademola Olaniran, the governor praised Hamzat’s loyalty and leadership, noting that the deputy governor, now the ruling party’s 2027 Lagos governorship flag bearer, is well-positioned to carry forward the administration’s vision.
Sanwo-Olu described the book as more than a personal story, saying it captures the resilience of Lagos and its people through photographs documenting his first term in office. He reflected on major challenges faced by his administration, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the EndSARS protests, the Abule-Ado explosion, and a major building collapse, stressing that despite these setbacks, Lagos remained resilient and continued to make progress.
The governor also recalled accepting the call to lead the state in 2019 with a commitment to build a Greater Lagos, highlighting achievements such as expanding the state’s COVID-19 response through increased testing, isolation centres, oxygen facilities, home-based healthcare technology and public vaccination campaigns.
He further described one of his favourite photographs in the book as the image of four successive Lagos governors jointly holding a model train, saying it symbolises the continuity in governance that has driven the state’s development over the years.
