The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, has concluded her tenure as the Vice Chancellor after five years at the institution, leaving behind a record of achievements spanning academics, infrastructure, digitalisation and financial growth.

Professor Olatunji-Bello made the disclosure while delivering her final address at the grand finale of LASU’s 29th and 30th Combined Convocation Ceremonies on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, Ojo, Lagos State.

Recounting her tenure, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor said academic excellence remained a major focus of her administration. She mentioned that LASU recorded a 96 per cent success rate in its first programme accreditation exercise, with 31 of the 37 programmes presented receiving full accreditation.

She added that the university subsequently secured full accreditation for 43 out of 44 programmes presented in 2023, while 17 new programmes received full accreditation in 2026. Her administration also introduced more than 30 new courses and established four faculties and two schools.

Professor Olatunji-Bello further disclosed that LASU’s internally generated revenue rose from ₦3 billion in September 2021 to ₦13 billion in September 2025, attributing the increase to finances.

Regarding infrastructure, she said more than 50 projects were completed during her tenure, including the Students’ Arcade, 8,000 bed hostels and the N3 billion TETFund sponsored Academic Resource Centre.
Beyond academics, Olatunji-Bello cited LASU’s achievements in sports and global rankings, including its performance at university games, bringing prestige and honour to the university.

As she exits office, Professor Olatunji-Bello expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government, the university’s governing structures, staff, students and other stakeholders for their support throughout her tenure, bringing to a close her five year leadership period at LASU.
