The Lagos State Government has reiterated the importance of the ongoing Screening Test for admission into the State’s Model Colleges and Upgraded Junior Secondary Schools, describing the exercise as a critical process for identifying qualified and capable candidates.

The Registrar, Lagos State Examinations Board, Mr. Adebayo Orunsolu, stated this while speaking on the conduct of the Second Run of the Screening Test exercise, held at Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC), Magodo.

Orunsolu explained that the Screening Test provides the principal avenue through which pupils are considered for admission into the State’s Model Colleges and Upgraded Junior Secondary Schools, noting that the Computer-Based Test (CBT) format provides a standardised platform for assessing candidates.

He said the adoption of CBT ensures fairness and uniformity in the admission process, while also preparing Lagos students to compete favourably with their counterparts across the country.

According to him, the State Government remains committed to maintaining high standards in education and examinations, adding that the Screening Test exercise is designed to ensure that deserving candidates are given the opportunity to access quality education in the State’s public schools.

The Registrar also urged parents and guardians to expose their children to computer usage from an early age, stressing that basic computer literacy has become increasingly important in modern education.

He observed that some candidates who possess strong academic abilities could encounter difficulties during CBT examinations if they are unfamiliar with the use of computers, advising parents to support their children in developing the necessary digital skills.

Speaking on her experience preparing for the examination, one of the candidates, Miss Delight Echebiri of Solutions School, advised other young candidates to remain committed to their studies and take advantage of available learning opportunities in preparation for competitive examinations.

Echebiri stressed the importance of independent study, urging candidates to complement classroom lessons with additional academic preparation.

She also encouraged prospective candidates to make use of online practice platforms to familiarise themselves with the CBT format, noting that such preparation could help improve confidence and performance during examinations.

According to her, candidates should pay attention to key areas including Mathematics, vocabulary, idioms and general knowledge, while making effective use of educational resources such as dictionaries, mathematics tools, brain-teaser platforms and other learning applications.

“I want to advise them that they should not just depend on their school. They should look for more, further ways to study,” she said.

Echebiri further encouraged students to make productive use of educational resources available online, particularly CBT practice applications and other digital learning platforms, to broaden their knowledge and enhance their preparedness for future examinations.

The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Examinations Board, continues to emphasise the importance of merit, fairness, standardisation and digital competence in the conduct of examinations and the admission of students into its public schools.
