The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, alongside 8 members of the federation’s executive board, has resigned as a result of concerns over the administration of Nigerian football.
The development comes as a result of pressure on the NFF leadership after a series of disappointing results, including the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, for the first time ever since inception of the tournament in 1991.
The federation has also come under scrutiny over the management of funds provided by the Federal Government for the country’s national teams. The Department of State Services (DSS) is reportedly investigating the utilisation of the N17 billion intervention fund approved in 2024 to settle outstanding players’ wages and bonuses.
The pressure on the NFF board got intense, this departures could affect the NFF elections scheduled for September 27 in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
