Traders at the Lagos Trade Fair Complex have protested the alleged involvement of Chinese traders in retail trading, expressing concern over its impact on local businesses.
The protesters, many of whom are Igbo traders, carried placards and called for Chinese businesses to stop selling directly to consumers in the market.
According to reports, the traders alleged that some Chinese businesses initially involved in wholesale activities have expanded into retail, giving them an advantage through direct access to manufacturers and cheaper imports, leading to a fall short in the Lagos traders businesses.
The protesters said their action was focused on protecting local businesses and was not intended to promote attacks or destruction of Chinese owned businesses.
