The Lagos State Safety Commission has intensified efforts to promote safety, hygiene and professional responsibility in the spa and beauty industry, urging operators to prioritise clients’ health, workers’ welfare and accident prevention in their daily business activities.
The Commission made the call during a one-day safety training programme for beauty industry operators and practitioners themed “Safe Hands, Safe Spaces: Building a Zero-Harm Culture in the Spa and Beauty Industry.”
Speaking at the event, the Director of Administration and Human Resources, Mr Awolesi Ademola, who represented the Commission’s Director-General and CEO, Mr Lanre Mojola, said the training was designed to equip participants with practical knowledge of workplace safety, hazard identification, risk management and accident prevention.
Mojola emphasised that maintaining a safe business environment was a collective responsibility requiring continuous education, personal commitment and strict compliance with established safety standards. He urged participants to implement the lessons learnt in their daily operations, stressing that safety must be an essential part of professional service delivery rather than an optional requirement.
He also reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to promoting safety consciousness across different sectors of the Lagos economy to protect residents, employees, business operators and visitors.
The training featured two technical presentations by industry experts. The Lagos State Chairman of the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria, Mr Olusola Ogunleye, delivered a lecture titled “Beyond Beauty: Advanced Risk Assessment and Hazard Control in Spa Operations,” focusing on identifying workplace hazards and implementing effective risk-control measures.
Similarly, the Chief Medical Director of Skintetics Clinics, Dr Chuka Imo, delivered a presentation titled “Protecting the Hands That Heal: Occupational Health and Ergonomic Safety for Beauty Professionals,” highlighting occupational health concerns and ergonomic practices that help protect beauty practitioners from work-related injuries and health risks.
In her vote of thanks, the Head of Unit, Spa, Gym, Cinema, Parks and Gardens, Mrs Abiola Mary Abiola, appreciated participants for their attentiveness and orderly conduct throughout the programme, encouraging them to apply the knowledge and key lessons gained.
The initiative is expected to strengthen safety awareness, promote responsible business practices and encourage preventive risk management across Lagos State’s growing beauty and spa industry, ensuring that staff welfare, workplace safety and client protection remain central to service delivery.
