Former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos Information Chapel, Comrade Wale Akodu, has donated branded football jerseys to the NUJ Lagos Information Chapel in support of the chapel’s sporting activities and the promotion of unity among its members.

The jerseys, donated for the chapel’s novelty football games, were officially unveiled on Wednesday during the novelty football match organised to honour the retiring Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr. Olanrewaju (Lanre) Bajulaiye, at Agidingbi Primary School, Ikeja.

The initiative marks a significant contribution towards encouraging healthy recreation, teamwork, and camaraderie among journalists in the chapel, while sustaining the culture of sports as a platform for strengthening professional relationships.

Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, Comrade Akodu described the donation as a token of appreciation to the chapel that shaped his leadership journey. He said the gesture reflects his unwavering commitment to the progress of the Lagos Information Chapel and his desire to support initiatives that foster unity, friendship, and togetherness among journalists.

According to him, sporting activities provide members with an opportunity to interact beyond the newsroom, build stronger bonds, and promote a spirit of cooperation that ultimately strengthens the union.

He expressed optimism that the jerseys would enhance the chapel’s sporting engagements and encouraged members to continue supporting programmes that promote the welfare, unity, and professional development of journalists.

Members of the Lagos Information Chapel applauded Comrade Akodu for the generous donation, describing it as a thoughtful and commendable gesture that would add colour and identity to the chapel’s novelty football games.

They noted that the donation demonstrates his enduring commitment to the growth and development of the chapel even after his tenure as chairman.

The unveiling of the jerseys formed part of activities during the retirement novelty football match held in honour of Mr. Bajulaiye, which featured Team Bajulaiye and Team Omotoso in a friendly encounter. The event brought together journalists, government officials, and well-wishers to celebrate the Permanent Secretary’s years of dedicated service to the Lagos State Government and the Ministry of Information and Strategy.

The jersey donation is expected to serve as a lasting legacy for the Lagos Information Chapel, reinforcing the importance of unity, wellness, and fellowship among members through sports.
