Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has called on United States President Donald Trump and the international community to closely monitor the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.
The singer made the appeal in a post on X on Tuesday, expressing concern over the possibility of violence, intimidation and disruption of the electoral process ahead of the August 15 poll.
Davido urged the United States and other members of the international community to encourage Nigerian authorities to protect voters and ensure that their choices at the ballot box are respected.
“President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election.
“There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process,” he wrote.
The singer stressed that residents of Osun State should be able to exercise their constitutional right to vote without fear or interference.
He also called on political authorities and security agencies to ensure adequate protection for voters throughout the electoral process.
“I appeal to the United States and the international community to pay close attention to the election and encourage all relevant authorities to ensure that every voter is protected and every vote is respected,” Davido said.
According to him, the primary objective should be to prevent violence and ensure that the election is conducted peacefully, transparently and fairly.
“We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election,” he added.
The latest appeal comes after Davido had previously threatened to seek the intervention of President Trump if the Osun election was marred by irregularities or violence.
During a live session with comedian Carter Efe, the singer said he would reach out to the US president should anything go wrong during the election.
Davido, who is a nephew of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has openly backed his uncle’s bid for a second term and has repeatedly spoken against violence ahead of the election.
He had earlier called on political actors and residents of the state to reject intimidation, provocation and violence, stressing that the decision of voters must be respected.
The August 15 governorship election will see Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seeking re-election against other contenders, including the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam.
