Lagos State High Court at Ikeja has sentenced a school teacher, Nwatu Isaac, to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting an eight-year-old pupil.
Justice Rahman Oshodi, who presided over the Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, handed down the sentence after finding Isaac guilty of defiling the child in March 2022.
The court heard that the survivor, identified Isaac, and gave evidence detailing the incident at her school in Epe.
Justice Oshodi ruled that the prosecution had established its case beyond reasonable doubt. The court also considered the child’s testimony credible and consistent, alongside evidence presented by her mother and medical findings that supported the prosecution’s case.
The judge noted that Isaac had abused the trust placed in him as the child’s teacher and the confidence her parents had in him. Following his conviction, Isaac is also expected to be registered on the Sexual Offenders Register maintained by the Lagos State Government.
