Nigeria’s Super Falcons secured a place in the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) quarter-finals with a commanding 6-2 victory over Egypt at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in a dramatic final Group C encounter.
Needing a convincing win after their opening defeat to Malawi, the Falcons delivered when it mattered most. Asisat Oshoala opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Gift Monday doubled Nigeria’s lead late in the first half. Egypt reduced the deficit just before halftime through Nadine Ghazi, who converted a penalty after Michelle Alozie was penalised.
Nigeria dominated the second half as Uchenna Kanu made it 3-1 before Christy Ucheibe converted another penalty to extend the lead. Egypt pulled another goal back through Ghazi, but Rasheedat Ajibade restored Nigeria’s three-goal advantage with the Falcons’ third penalty of the match. Substitute Joy Omewa sealed the emphatic victory with a late sixth goal.
The result saw Nigeria finish second in Group C behind Malawi and advance to the quarter-finals, where they will face the winner of Group B, comprising Cameroon, Ghana, and Mali.Category: Sports
